Legacy giving is a powerful way to make a difference in the lives of others. At YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, we work hard to make your contribution count by supporting women across our city in areas of business and entrepreneurship, racial justice, sexual violence and family care. Together, we’ll continue to provide tools and opportunities that empower these women to strengthen their communities and create their own legacies.

Why Your Gift Matters

When you give to YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, you’re contributing to more than an organization—you’re connecting 200,000 women, children and families with tools that grant support and instill confidence. Your gift comes to life through programs that provide onsite job training, inspire new generations of female scientists, offer counseling for sexual assault victims and ultimately create better outcomes for women across our city. Because when you empower one woman, you help strengthen an entire community.

How to Contribute

Help ensure YWCA Metropolitan Chicago’s 140-year legacy of empowering women continues by giving a gift of securities, a gift of memory or honor, or by naming YWCA Metropolitan Chicago in your will. This thoughtful contribution will help to preserve our existing programs and expand our work to support future generations. It’s a simple way to make a sizeable impact.

Bequests (or gifts through a donor’s will) are the most common type of planned charitable gift received by YWCA Metropolitan Chicago. Typically, a donor sets aside a certain dollar amount or percentage of their estate, or a specific asset to benefit the YWCA. The donor’s estate will receive a charitable tax deduction upon his or her death when the gift is made to charity. Bequests help the YWCA launch and also support important community programs, and prepare the organization for future growth. Click here for detailed information on making a bequest to the YWCA.

Gifts of Securities

Gifts of securities are useful because federal tax law permits taxpayers who itemize to deduct the current value of charitable contributions from their adjusted gross income. Stock contributors may owe no tax on the difference between what they paid for the donated stock and its current fair market value (FMV); i.e. there may not be tax on the capital gains. Click here for detailed instructions on how to make a gift of securities to the YWCA.

Gifts in Memory or Honor

Honor a special woman in your life—a mother, grandmother, aunt, spouse or friend—who has served as an inspiration to you. Consider making a gift in her name to YWCA Metropolitan Chicago. Tributes serve as memorials, as well as to commemorate significant life events, such as Mother’s Day, anniversaries and birthdays.

  • An acknowledgment card will be mailed to the person you’re honoring or a contact of your choice.
  • Recognition in our annual donors report.
  • Assurance that your gift is helping women transform their lives, be confident in their choices and make valuable contributions to their communities.

Legacy Giving

“Legacy giving” is a term that can sound intimidating, but the concept is simple. A legacy gift is a charitable gift that requires planning in advance, and which YWCA Metropolitan Chicago receives at a future date. Legacy gifts are popular because they can provide valuable tax benefits.
