Presenter: Presenter: Susan Mrazek, Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant
This training addresses the common misconceptions around talking with young children about race. Studies have shown that Caucasian parents often communicate to their children that ‘race doesn’t matter’ while children of color learn very early on that race does matter in life. Unfortunately, racial differences often equate to a lifetime of educational, legal, and health disparities that should not be ignored. Societal change requires us all to begin conversations about race with young children. Age appropriate honesty, transparency, and validation of experiences are a few of the tools presented here to help children process and understand racial differences.
