Yoga for Self-Care

Presented by Kate Rice, Experienced & Trauma Informed Yoga Instructor

Emotional tension – whether it’s first-hand trauma or “just” stress from life or working in a helping profession – can have physical effects on our body, and vice versa: what we do with our bodies can affect our minds. Talking it out only takes us so far. Join Kate for a 30-minute all levels yoga class to get out of our heads and into our bodies. This class is focused on physical movement and making choices – not talking about emotions or trauma! – and will involve seated and standing postures. Participants can sit on a chair instead of the ground if preferred. A yoga mat is optional but not required as there will be no weight bearing on the arms with hands on the ground.

All registrants will be entered into a drawing to win a 45-minute private yoga class with Kate via Zoom. Kate also offers pay-what-you-can yoga classes via Zoom and partners with organizations such as residential homeless shelters and Cook County Jail to offer trauma informed yoga classes.

All registrants will also be entered into a drawing to win one free month of yoga at InPowered Yoga in Lincoln Square – a coming-soon community space linked to InPowered Therapy offering accessible yoga, trauma informed yoga and more – when the studio opens.

Cost: $20 | Register Here

Recognizing Anxiety and Stress in the Era of COVID-19 and What You Can Do About It

Presented by Dr. Amelia Case, DC, Universal Health Institute and Kurt Hill, Holistic Health Practice

Learn about the consequences of anxiety and the effect it has across the board mentally, emotionally, physically and chemically. The COVID-19 pandemic has activated two common triggers since the stay-at-home order was announced:  1) A sense of displacement on time and territory, and 2) A sense of isolation. Dr. Amelia Case, DC, Board-Certified Chiropractic Physician at Universal Health Institute will talk about how the brain recognizes both of these triggers as threats and what kind of strategies we can use to stop those mammalian triggers so they don’t overload the human brain function.

Kurt Hill, Licensed Professional Counselor and Founder of Holistic Health Practice will discuss why it is beneficial to consider a holistic approach when dealing with stress, anxiety and depression, mindfulness as a fundamental part of well-being practices, and body/mind/spirit techniques that are essential to enhancing our stability and eliminating trauma in our lives.

The first 10 people to register will receive a complementary screening or consultation for pain, an injury, or a health challenge with Universal Health Institute. (Screenings/consultations must be scheduled within one month of this event.)
