Participants will learn about how trauma affects the developing brain. The way the brain is affected often reveals how and why a child may react or interact in a particular way to seemingly benign environmental changes or people. Caregivers are involved in a discussion about their knowledge of trauma and how to best support children in their program who may have endured traumatic experiences. Hands-on classroom and sensory activities are described and experienced.

The things you say and the things you do when you interact with children each day make a big difference in their lives. You can enhance children’s learning and your effectiveness as a teacher if just some of your “everyday” interactions become intentional and purposeful. You will discover new ways to interact with children in a meaningful way, create language samples to take back into your environment and work with others while engaging in language activities that will expand the way you are interacting with children in your programs.
