Members of the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago’s Legacy Circle are women and men who are part of the history of the YWCA and want to do more for the future by leaving a gift from their estate to the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago. These thoughtful people plan to leave the world a better place through their legacy gifts. With a legacy gift, individuals of even modest means can help preserve and expand the work of the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago for future generations.

Planned Giving

“Planned giving” is a term that can sound intimidating, but the concept is simple. A planned gift is a charitable gift that requires planning in advance, and which YWCA Metropolitan Chicago receives at a future date. Planned gifts are popular because they can provide valuable tax benefits.*

Bequests (or gifts through a donor’s will) are the most common type of planned charitable gift received by YWCA Metropolitan Chicago. Typically, a donor sets aside a certain dollar amount or percentage of their estate, or a specific asset to benefit the YWCA. The donor’s estate will receive a charitable tax deduction upon his or her death when the gift is made to charity.* Bequests help the YWCA launch and also support important community programs, and prepare the organization for future growth. Gifts of Securities

Gifts of securities are useful because federal tax law permits taxpayers who itemize to deduct the current value of charitable contributions from their adjusted gross income. Stock contributors may owe no tax on the difference between what they paid for the donated stock and its current fair market value (FMV); i.e. there may not be tax on the capital gains.* Click here for detailed instructions on how to make a gift of securities to the YWCA.

Gifts in Memory or Honor

Honor a special woman in your life—a mother, grandmother, aunt, spouse or friend—who has served as an inspiration to you. Consider making a gift in her name to YWCA Metropolitan Chicago. Tributes serve as memorials, as well as to commemorate significant life events, such as Mother’s Day, anniversaries and birthdays.

  • An acknowledgment card will be mailed to the person you’re honoring or a contact of your choice.
  • Recognition in our annual donors report.
  • Assurance that your gift is helping women transform their lives, be confident in their choices and make valuable contributions to their communities.
